The Importance of Dental Care for Your Dog

The Importance of Dental Care for Your Dog
Your dog could stop chewing food as vigorously, start crying while they eat (or when it is time to eat!) and show red or bleeding gums.

Everyone needs to have the right dental care. Even if you can’t brush your dog’s teeth, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do for them. Here is why doggie dental care is so important

Watching Out for Problems

As with your human children, you’ve got to stay alert for any oral health issues that your dogs might experience. It can make them reluctant to eat, which will impact their health and growth. Plaque and tartar are annoying enough when people need to deal with them, but your pup doesn’t have the benefit of opposable thumbs! Some symptoms you’ve got to keep an eye out for include loose teeth, bad breath, and sensitivity. After all, this could indicate the presence of an infection that can get worse as it expands to other parts of the body.

Other Bad Signs

While those might be the earliest signs that something is wrong, they aren’t the only ones. Your dog could stop chewing food as vigorously, start crying while they eat (or when it is time to eat!) and show red or bleeding gums. Without the right dental care, your puppy will be sad, and we want to avoid that!

Improving Dental Care Routines

It can be tedious to start a new dental care routine, but if you can give your dog some soft dental treats, then it can make things better really quickly! Gently brush their teeth every few days and see if they start to feel better. Some chew toys double as toothbrushes, too! If they aren’t showing any signs of improvement, or their condition worsens, then it’s time to get in touch with the professionals. The friendly professionals here at Alexander Animal Hospital can help, so just give us a call!
